Install

The current alpha is Windows only. macOS and Linux builds are planned but not available yet — the download page shows both as "Coming soon."

Requirements

  • 64-bit Windows
  • An internet connection — chat in the sidebar runs in the cloud, through your OfficeLabs account
  • An OfficeLabs account with an active subscription (see Create your account and choose a plan)
note

Specific RAM and disk-space minimums aren't published yet — check back, or ask in your alpha channel.

Download

  1. Sign in on the OfficeLabs website — downloads are gated to your account.
  2. Go to the download page and select Download for Windows.

About the unsigned installer

This alpha is not code-signed yet. When you run OfficeLabs-Setup.exe, Windows SmartScreen will show "Windows protected your PC" because the publisher isn't verified. This is expected for the current alpha:

  1. Select More info on the SmartScreen dialog.
  2. Select Run anyway.

Only run this if you're comfortable installing unsigned preview software. Production releases will be signed.

Install

  1. Run OfficeLabs-Setup.exe and get past the SmartScreen warning above.
  2. Accept the UAC prompt — the installer needs administrator rights to write to C:\Program Files\OfficeLabs and to the registry.
  3. Work through the installer pages: license, components (core files, file associations for .odt/.ods/.odp/.odg/.odf, desktop shortcut, Start menu shortcut), and install location.
  4. The installer installs the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime it needs, then copies the application.
  5. Launch OfficeLabs from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut it created.

If a security scanner is holding a file open (for example during a reinstall over a running copy), the install can fail — see Troubleshooting.
